Ever wanted to know what the differences are between the iPhone SE (2020 model) and the iPhone XR ? We'll explain it to you in detail in this article. As far as we're concerned, these are the entry-level models for new Apple users.
1. Difference between the screen of iPhone Xr and iPhone SE 2020
We start with a comparison of the screens between both iPhones. The iPhone SE has a screen size of 4.7 inches, while the screen of the Phone XR is a bit larger at 6.1 inches. Both phones have an LCD screen and are identical in terms of pixel density. It is not advisable to go swimming with either iPhone, but fortunately they can withstand a splash of water or dust. Furthermore, both iPhones have True Tone and the iPhone SE has the well-known retina screen, while the iPhone XR has liquid retina. The liquid retina screen is of better quality and offers a smoother user experience than the older retina screen. It is actually a step between OLED and LCD, but a bit cheaper than OLED.
2. Processor
As soon as we delve a little deeper into a phone, we come to the processor. The iPhone SE has an A13 bionic chip and the iPhone XR has an A12 bionic chip. The A13 is slightly newer than the A12. You will not quickly notice the difference between these two chips. Both are extremely suitable for AR games and also help you enormously with taking beautiful photos. Your apps will also start up smoothly and watching a cracker of a Netflix movie on the go should not be a problem. A big advantage of choosing the iPhone SE with the A13 bionic chip is that it receives updates for longer and is of course a fraction faster than the A12 bionic chip.
3. Camera
The cameras of these two models are almost the same. For example, both have one camera with a 12-MP wide-angle lens on the back and a 7-MP camera with 1080p HD video on the front. With both iPhones you can also take those beautiful portrait photos. Unfortunately, it does not recognize your pet or an antique vase. These cameras are also equipped with image stabilization, which prevents blurred images. HDR is also present in both for better color quality. These iPhones have a 5x digital zoom. This is fine for most people, but you cannot zoom in very far.
Filming the best family moments or capturing that one school project should also be just fine, because both offer 4k video recording with 24 fps, 30 fps or 60 fps. Now I hear you thinking "What's the difference then?". With the iPhone XR it is possible to create Animoji's and Memoji's with the front camera. This is not possible with the iPhone SE. The iPhone SE does offer more lighting options for the portrait mode.
4. Dimensions
We already briefly discussed the screen, but there is a clear difference in terms of size. If you like compact, then you will probably prefer the iPhone SE with a screen area of 60.9 cm² and a total phone size of 138.4 mm by 67.3 mm. If you prefer a slightly larger phone, then the iPhone XR with a screen area of 90.4 cm² and a total phone size of 150.9 mm by 75.7 mm might be a better choice. The iPhone XR also has much thinner bezels than the iPhone SE, so this comparison is purely a matter of personal preference. The iPhone SE is nice and easy to operate with one hand, but the iPhone XR is nicer when watching your favorite series.
5. Other functionalities
Not convinced yet by the above aspects? No problem, we will tell you a few more differences that might make the difference for you. For example, you still have to unlock the iPhone SE with your finger, while you can unlock the iPhone XR with your face. If you also don't like the standard black, white or (product) red color, then the iPhone XR is the better choice for you, because it comes in no less than 6 colors. If battery life happens to be very important, because you travel a lot, then the iPhone XR is also the most convenient with the longest battery life of all iPhones . The last point is, how much do you want to spend at most? At leapp we sell the iPhone XR from 499 euros. In short, both iPhones are good models and you can never go wrong when purchasing one of these models.
