Many people like you and me have become acquainted with Apple, because we have used (had) an iPhone or iPad and are generally satisfied with it. Often the purchase of an Apple 'computer' is also considered. The choice can be made between a MacBook family or an iMac. What we see is that for many people a MacBook is the logical choice, because of all the advantages that an Apple device has to offer and that it also comes in a handy portable laptop format.
But... Sometimes an iMac is worth considering! First of all: What is an iMac anyway? The Apple iMac is an all-in-one computer within the Mac family. The only wire you really need is the one to the power outlet. Everything else is built in! Except for a keyboard and mouse, but those can be connected wirelessly.
An iMac looks like a beautifully designed display, in which the hardware (processor, memory, storage) is incorporated. That makes the iMac suitable to put it in a place where it can stand out. In the living room, your kitchen or home office. But let that be a by-catch.
An iMac is interesting for you if...
...you need more computing power than a MacBook or laptop can offer, for example for editing videos, music or large data sets
Most iMacs have an extra powerful processor or a separate video card that can offer more computing power than a MacBook or laptop. MacBooks and laptops are made in a balance between energy consumption, performance and cooling. An iMac has 'performance' as number 1 and does not have to take into account the traditional "laptop considerations".
...you are looking for an extra large screen with high resolution
iMacs come with large screens; say 21.5 inches or even 27 inches. Compare that to a MacBook: It comes in 13, 15, and 16-inch variations. Ideal for situations where you need every square pixel to handle your video editing timeline or spreadsheets.
...you are looking for an eye-catcher in your interior
Not quite the right argument, but an iMac is simply beautiful! Not only to work with, but also to look at. And no one should be ashamed of a design piece, right?
...multiple housemates want to use a Mac
AMacBook is, just like an iPhone , quite a personal device. More vulnerable if everyone just opens the screen, touches it, sits with greasy fingers on the keyboard. Actually just not a good idea. An iMac solves that, because the keyboard is separate (and therefore easy to clean), the glass plate in front of the screen provides better protection against pointing and the storage capacity (formerly also called the hard drive ) is more than sufficient to provide for multiple users. Of course, a separate account can be created per user. Handy!
So, if you're in the market for a Mac, consider an iMac.
